Department of Afrikaans, Lecturer

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Teach Afrikaans Linguistics at undergraduate level;
- Teach Afrikaans Linguistics, General Linguistics and Applied Linguistics at postgraduate level;
- Supervise postgraduate students;
- Make an active contribution to the Department’s research profile;
- Carry out academic administration and other activities in the Department as determined by the HOD.
Minimum requirements
- A Master’s degree in Linguistics;
- A research record appropriate to the post level.
Required competences
- Expert knowledge of Afrikaans Linguistics;
- In-depth knowledge of General Linguistics;
- Expertise in at least one of the following subfields: Historical Linguistics, Phonetics, Phonology, Morphology, Syntax, Semantics, Pragmatics;
- Excellent language and communication skills.
Added advantages and preferences
- Teaching experience at tertiary level;
- The ability to supervise and mentor postgraduate students;
- Involvement in professional societies and research projects;
- International contacts is a strong recommendation.
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of
appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and
UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
